Talbot House Catholic Charities
PO Box 417

Talbot House Catholic Charities is located not far from Canyon de Chelly and serves the people living in the heart of the Navajo reservation. Primarily, Talbot House serves those afflicted with alcohol use through the 12-step process patterned after the 12-step program of the Alcoholic Anonymous. Court-mandated clients as well as those who want to embark in the road to recovery come to Talbot House to attend the presentations of the 12-step process conducted both in the Navajo and English language. These presentations are offered twice a week from 10 AM to 12 noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Parenting classes are also available to those who are referred to Talbot House once a week on Tuesdays from 10 AM to 12 noon. A Substance Abuse Class is conducted after the 12-step presentation on Thursdays.
Emergency Assistance to help with utilities and rent is also offered with limited funding. Assistance with utilities is available through the FEMA program where people from both Navajo and Apache counties are served.
Lottie Yazzie has been with Talbot House for many years and she serves as the Administrative Assistant. She welcomes the clients coming for the 12-step process and manages the FEMA Assistance program.
The Canyon de Chelly AA group meets three nights a week in Talbot House (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 7:30-8:30 PM) allowing those seeking recovery to meet others in the same situation they find themselves in and finding the needed support. Narcotics Anonymous meets in Talbot House on Wednesdays at 7:30-8:30 PM. Both self-help groups find a welcoming place in Talbot House.
Freddie Brown volunteers to present the 12-step process each Tuesdays and Thursday. He also does maintenance work in both Talbot House and the parish- Our Lady of Fatima.
Talbot House does not provide assistance in food and clothing because the parish has a food bank which is managed by volunteer parishioners and a thrift store which is open several days a week.
Parenting classes are conducted in this meeting room. Oftentimes this room is also available to those who wanted to just come and visit and talk when the big meeting room is being used for the presentations.
